Solution combines IBM Unified Communications with Land Mobile Radios
LAS VEGAS, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- UnifiedEdge, Inc. today announced that it has successfully completed validation of its RadioConnect(TM) for Sametime against the IBM Government Network Centric Operations Framework (NCO). UnifiedEdge is among the first vendors to validate a unified communications and collaboration product for this new IBM initiative.
The IBM Government NCO initiative brings together platform-independent software vendors offering IT solutions for defense and public safety. These offerings are tested against rigorous assessment criteria designed to meet the demands of future open standards-based government environments. The framework provides a military-grade platform and architecture for transformation, interoperability, and integration. Network-centric logistics, intelligence, and command and control are fundamental principles in the framework. These principles are addressed via the framework's service oriented architecture (SOA) foundation that helps break down the barriers to siloed information, and links technology, processes, people and information in a cohesive solution.
UnifiedEdge's RadioConnect(TM) for Sametime is a plug-in for IBM Sametime that extends the product's unified communications and collaboration platform to land mobile radios (LMR) and other mobile devices. The product delivers interoperable or frontline LMR conversations to a user's preferred computing platform, ensuring that the mobile workforce, across any industry, is a part of the enterprise communication landscape. In public safety scenarios, the ability to combine multiple devices from multiple agencies into one seamless communications picture is critical to emergency management response. For example, if fire, police and military personnel respond to a natural disaster, each entity likely arrives on site with disparate devices and communications capabilities. With RadioConnect for Sametime, responders can combine those communication streams, enabling them to work quickly and efficiently with people from other organizations.
UnifiedEdge's RadioConnect for Sametime was used to ensure secure and timely communication between the National Guard, state Homeland Security personnel and state and local police during the State of Missouri's 2009 Governor's Inauguration. According to Missouri's Chief Interoperability Officer Jim Lundsted, RadioConnect has proven itself to be an incredibly flexible, lightweight and portable application that can be added to the State's existing suite of communications services: "Sametime is a key component of how we communicate," and added, "the ability to monitor or participate in wireless communication with mobile radios via Sametime is very useful, especially from a security standpoint."
"At UnifiedEdge we're striving to solve complex communication challenges presented to the mobile workforce," said Steve White, President/CEO of UnifiedEdge. "Our first entry into this space, RadioConnect, takes advantage of IBM's industry-leading unified communications and SOA platform to help businesses and government entities deliver end-to-end communications environments."
"RadioConnect for Sametime is a powerful example of the benefits of integrating unified communications capabilities into critical business processes," said Bruce Morse, vice president unified communications and collaboration, IBM Collaboration. "For example, emergency responders from different organizations shouldn't need to worry about how to communicate in a crisis. RadioConnect for Sametime breaks down existing barriers of disparate devices and systems, allowing people to work smarter, and faster, to protect and serve the public.
RadioConnect for Sametime is available today and is certified for use with IBM Sametime and IBM WebSphere Portal. Validated for IBM SOA, communication-enabled business processes (CEBP) can be orchestrated via the platform allowing communication tasks such as conference calls, remote radio controls and alerts to be implemented via automation.
